Options🔗︎

The following part options are available for a part being laser cut:

  • Material
  • Sheet thickness
  • Orientation
  • Deburring
  • Certificate

Material🔗︎

These are the (current) available materials that we keep in stock so that we can deliver quickly. Materials that are not available in combination with the selected sheet thickness are shown in red.

Sheet thickness🔗︎

The available plate thickness depends on the chosen material. Invalid combinations are shown in red. From a 3D file, the plate thickness is already defined and cannot be changed.

Orientation🔗︎

It is possible to select the desired orientation relative to the rolling and grinding direction. The possibilities depend on the dimensions of the product, the chosen material and selected operations. The orientation ultimately determines how the part enters the nesting.

Post-processing🔗︎

After laser cutting your parts, it is possible to have one or more post-processing operations done. For example, edge rounding. More information about edge rounding

Material certificate🔗︎

When you calculate a quote, you can also include the request for a material certificate in the calculation.

More about orientation🔗︎

The possibilities depend on the dimensions of the product, the chosen material and selected operations. The orientation ultimately determines how the part enters the nesting. The X direction is horizontal, the Y direction vertical.

Part orientation

  • For ground material, an orientation (X or Y) must be chosen because of the visual grinding direction.
  • For small products, the portal automatically chooses the orientation so that the longest direction will be in X, this gives advantages for production. Should this not be desired, this is easily adjusted.

Orientation affecting follow-up operations

Keep in mind that in subsequent operations, such as bending, the rolling direction of the sheet may affect the process. In that case, choose a single orientation (X or Y).

XY orientation🔗︎

The XY orientation is chosen by default so that the product can be nested in the sheet as efficiently as possible. The parts may be rotated every 90 degrees in the nesting:

Orientation XY

X orientation🔗︎

The products are placed "horizontally" in the nesting and may only be rotated 180 degrees.

Orientation X

Y orientation🔗︎

The products are placed 'vertically' in the nesting and may only be rotated 180 degrees.

Orientation Y

Any orientation🔗︎

Products are placed randomly in the nesting and may be rotated at any angle. This is rarely the best choice, exceptions being arched products.

Orientation Any

Starting point🔗︎

It is currently not (yet) possible to choose the position of the starting point (also called microjoint or cutting position) in our portal. Our production software automatically chooses the best starting point based on the nesting, orientation and shape of the cutting contours. This may vary for each order and/or product.

Cutting gas🔗︎

With all the expertise available within Dumaco, we make the choice of cutting gas. With the modern machinery we have, the cutting gas makes almost no difference in price. Standardization of the cutting gas ensures efficient production.

  • We always cut stainless steel and aluminum with nitrogen.
  • We cut steel
    • up to 5 mm: nitrogen.
    • From 6 mm: oxygen.

Cutting steel

Cutting steel with oxygen produces an oxide film on the cut seam. Keep this in mind for post-processing such as powder coating and painting.

Notifications in part options🔗︎

The component options screen may display the following messages:

  • Invalid combination.
  • Invalid combination: Material - Sheet thickness
  • Invalid combination: Material - Orientation
  • Invalid choice
  • Invalid choice: Deburring
